Your story, your home
Here's a fun fact: cozy isn’t a decorating style.
It’s not the pumpkins, plaids, or whatever seasonal decor we’re supposed to be buying right now.
It’s actually pretty simple. A room feels cozy when the lighting, textures, layers, and comfort, all work together.
Here’s what I mean.

Layer your lighting.
If one overhead light is doing all the work, the room is going to feel flat. Add a floor lamp in a darker corner. A table lamp beside the sofa. Mix ambient lighting with task lighting.
With the days getting shorter, this makes an even bigger difference. We all love a home that already has that warm
glow before it gets dark outside like something straight
out of a magazine shot.
Bring in layers and textures.
A throw over the chair. Linen or textured pillows. Fabrics you can actually see and feel. Nothing complicated.
These layers and textures are the little details that make
a room feel comfortable and lived-in
versus staged and overly styled.
Choose furniture you actually want to sit on.
I always say your sofa should invite you to sit down and stay a while, not look like nobody is allowed to touch it.
And don't automatically push everything against a wall.
Angle a chair toward a window, the fireplace, or wherever the room naturally feels good. Comfort changes how a room looks, but more importantly, how it feels.

Use every bit of natural light you have.
Open those curtains all the way. Not halfway. 😉
A mirror across from a window or near a lamp can also help bounce light deeper into the room. Especially this time of year, when evenings are coming earlier, you want to make the most of the daylight you have.
And really, that’s it. No pumpkins required.
It works whether you’re getting ready to sell or you simply want your home to feel good again.
